Paycheck Calculator — Free US Take-Home Pay Estimate
Calculate US take-home pay from salary or hourly rate. Free paycheck calculator shows net after federal tax, Social Security, and Medicare—per check and year.
This affects how your annual deductions are split per paycheck, not the total annual amount.
Need to convert your hourly rate to an annual salary first? Use the Hourly to Salary Calculator.
Enter the number of allowances from your W-4 form. If unsure, use 0 for the most conservative estimate.
Enter any additional amount withheld per paycheck if specified on your W-4.
See your full federal tax breakdown with the Income Tax Calculator.
Your effective rate is the percentage of gross income paid in federal income tax. It differs from your marginal tax bracket.

| #1 | 10% | $0 – $11,600 |
| #2 | 12% | $11,600 – $47,150 |

| #4 | 24% | $100,525 – $191,950 |
| #5 | 32% | $191,950 – $243,725 |

Tax brackets apply to portions of income, not your total income. Only the income within each bracket is taxed at that bracket's rate.

| Medicare | 1.45% | No income limit |

Employer also pays matching Social Security (6.2%) and Medicare (1.45%) on your behalf — these do not reduce your take-home pay.
How this calculator works
Federal income tax in the US is progressive. Each bracket only applies to the slice of income that falls inside its range, so a worker in the 22% bracket pays 10% and 12% on the lower portions of their income and only 22% on what is left after the 12% bracket ends. This calculator subtracts the 2024 standard deduction for your filing status, applies any W-4 allowances at a flat $4,300 each, then runs the remaining taxable income through the 2024 federal bracket table.
FICA — Social Security and Medicare — is calculated as flat percentages on gross wages. Social Security is 6.2% up to the 2024 wage base of $168,600. Medicare is 1.45% with no cap, plus an additional 0.9% on wages above $200,000 for single filers or $250,000 for married filing jointly.
Your real paycheck may differ from this estimate because it does not include state or local income tax, health insurance premiums, retirement contributions like 401(k), HSA or FSA contributions, or any other employer-specific deductions. Treat the result as a federal-only baseline.
