What your percentile means

A percentile is a ranking, not a verdict. Being in the 60th percentile means 60% of people in the comparison group fall below your number — nothing more, nothing less.

Age matters a lot, especially for net worth. A 28-year-old at the 70th percentile has a very different balance sheet than a 58-year-old at the 70th percentile, because median wealth roughly doubles each decade of working life.

Comparisons across countries, cities, or industries would shift these numbers significantly. This tool uses national US reference data, so treat it as a rough national bearing, not a personal benchmark.

How this calculator works

Income percentiles reference the US Census Bureau and Bureau of Labor Statistics Current Population Survey. Net worth percentiles reference the Federal Reserve's Survey of Consumer Finances. We interpolate between published anchor percentiles to estimate your rank within the chosen age group. This prototype uses approximate reference distributions — final tables will be swapped in before launch.
